Finning delivers twin Cat® C32 diesel propulsion engines to Mainprize
Finning UK & Ireland (Finning) has supplied twin Cat® C32 diesel propulsion engines to Mainprize Offshore’s new MO4 vessel, which is currently providing vital support to a network of Germany’s offshore wind farms.
The MO4 is the latest in an ever-expanding fleet of windfarm support vessels for Mainprize Offshore, which required a reliable engine propulsion solution to carry cargo, equipment and crew to a series of German windfarms.
The engines from Finning, the sole supplier of Caterpillar equipment in the UK and Ireland, drive fixed pitch propellers, providing a service speed of 26 knots for the MO4, even when fully loaded. Mainprize Offshore also needed a solution that would hold the vessel in position when docking, offering good maneuverability and steady performance when a change in propulsion direction is required.
Constructed by Mainprize Offshore, Aluminium Marine Consultants and Walker Marine Designs, the MO4 offers a 30,000 litre fuel oil capacity, 20,000 litre fresh water capacity and the provision for 30t of deck cargo and four 20ft containers. In addition to its expansive deck and cabin area, other notable features include a 3-point mooring system, fuel and fresh water transfer systems, and the capability to perform seabed, bird and impact assessment surveys.
Bob Mainprize, owner of Mainprize Offshore, said: “Our relationship with Finning extends back 40 years, and with good reason. Having a dependable support network is vital for these offshore windfarms, and we need to be ready to respond quickly should the need arise. Otherwise, the consequences and financial penalties can be severe.
“Therefore, a propulsion solution that operates reliably and consistently is essential. We can confidently say that Finning and Cat offer marine engines that can be depended on, which is why we selected the C32 engine for our new MO4 windfarm support vessel.”
Gordon Dalrymple, Marine Sales Manager at Finning, adds: “Selecting the correct engine for a vessel is a sizeable investment, but Cat® engines have been designed, engineered and tested to perform reliably, whatever the application.
“The C32 engines perfectly match Mainprize Offshore’s requirements for its new MO4 vessel, providing unrivalled engine reliability while meeting EPA Tier 3 and IMO II emissions regulations.”
