Flags fly high as ABP’s Ports of Ipswich and Lowestoft celebrate Suffolk Day
For the first time this year, the county of Suffolk held its very own Suffolk Day on 21st June and ABP’s Ports of Ipswich and Lowestoft joined in the celebrations with a proud display of festive decorations and raising awareness about the key contribution they make to the county economy.
One of the most recognisable features of Suffolk’s natural landscape is its coastline, where two of ABP’s East Anglian ports, Ipswich and Lowestoft, are situated. These ports have played a key role in establishing the county’s global trade links and its continued prosperity. They also continue to support the success of both flagship manufacturers and a vast range of industries sustaining tens of thousands of jobs across the UK.
The Port of Ipswich is Britain’s number one grain exporting port, facilitating trade links between Suffolk and the world, and is a business the Suffolk community can be proud of. Likewise, the Port of Lowestoft, which is Britain’s most easterly port, represents a cornerstone of the region’s economy. It is an expanding renewable energy hub, offering extensive facilities focused on supporting the offshore oil and gas industries.
Paul Ager, ABP Divisional Port Manager, East Coast, said: “We were very keen to support this great initiative and celebrate all that is great about our beautiful county. In partnership with our customers we facilitate world-wide trade via our ports, which has successfully made Suffolk a vital link in global supply chains.
“We are proud that our ports of Ipswich and Lowestoft continue to play a significant role in supporting local jobs and their surrounding communities. Looking ahead to next year’s celebrations, we hope that an even greater number of local businesses will join us in embracing this special day and celebrating Suffolk’s rich culture.”
Suffolk Day is an initiative which is inspired by the success of Yorkshire Day in the North, aims to raise awareness around all the things that make the county a great place to work and live.
