Azra Tech announces the successful fleet-wide deployment of its patented, biocide-free, durable, ultra-low-friction coating technology across six vessels operated by Western Shipping Pte Ltd, one of the world’s leading ship management companies. The verified results mark a defining moment in the Azra Tech–Western Shipping partnership — and a signal to the entire shipping industry that next-generation biocide free hull-coating system is no longer a future proposition. It is a present-day competitive advantage.
Supported in the Greek market by Green Navis, Azra Tech’s exclusive representative in Greece, this collaboration spans the full breadth of Western Shipping’s operated fleet — from Aframax crude oil tankers to LPG carriers — with consistent, measurable performance improvements confirmed at every single application.
A partnership built on proof
The collaboration begins in 2023, with the LPG tanker Marcellus Lady — the first LPG vessel treated with Azra Tech’s coating system. The post-application performance data was unambiguous: a double-digit reduction in propulsion power demand at EEDI speed. Western Shipping did not need a second opinion. Between 2024 and 2025, five further vessels followed — Aframax crude oil tankers Arizona Lady, Zenovia Lady, Ellie Lady, Ashley Lady and Spetses Lady — each one a reaffirmation of trust earned through performance.
The aggregate impact across all six vessels is the figure that should command the attention of every shipowner and operator in the market today: more than 5,000 tonnes of CO₂ avoided as of January 2026, alongside double-digit fuel efficiency improvements that directly reduce operating costs, strengthen CII ratings, and future-proof compliance postures against an accelerating regulatory environment.
These are not projections. They are not model outputs. They are verified, post-application measurements — vessel by vessel, drydock by drydock.
The Western Shipping fleet stands as documented proof of what is possible when a shipowner commits to a technology that works – and when a technology company delivers on its promise at scale.
Technology without compromise
Azra Tech’s coating system is engineered around three non-negotiable principles: ultra-low hydrodynamic friction, long-term corrosion resistance, and complete elimination of biocides. The result is a technology that simultaneously improves vessel economics, extends hull service life, and eliminates the toxic environmental footprint associated with conventional antifouling coatings.
Corrosion resistance is designed for a period of ten years — an industry-leading durability benchmark that extend the lifetime of the asset. For Western Shipping, this means a capex investment long after the first application of Azra Tech’s coating system.
Unlike conventional antifouling solutions, Azra Tech’s nanotechnology introduces no toxic compounds into the marine environment. This positions the Western Shipping fleet not only ahead of current IMO regulations, but structurally ahead of the compliance trajectory that is reshaping the economics of ship operation. The question for the industry is no longer whether to act — it is how quickly.
“By combining ultra-low hydrodynamic friction with certified long-term corrosion resistance, Azra Tech enables shipowners and operators to achieve measurable improvements in propulsion efficiency, CO₂ emissions reduction and vessel lifetime extension,” said an Azra Tech spokesperson. “The results across Western Shipping’s fleet confirm that this is not a one-vessel story — it is a fleet transformation.”
