OceanScore wins new clients with Asia expansion to support regional compliance

Regulatory readiness is high on the agenda for Asian shipping players seeking to navigate the complexities of the EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime. And OceanScore is rapidly expanding its global position through partnerships, events, on-the-ground engagement and securing new clients.

Prominent Japanese player Meiji Shipping Group is the latest company to join the growing roster of global clients taking onboard OceanScore’s advanced compliance solutions geared to managing complexity and mitigating financial risk with new green regulations.

Robust regional presence

Leading maritime data and compliance specialist OceanScore has seen accelerating market momentum in Asia since opening its Singapore office last year. This has enabled it to more effectively meet the needs of regional clients, while also forging strategic alliances to bolster its compliance services.

“We are investing in a robust regional presence to make our resources readily available for ship owners, operators and managers, while helping to demystify the regulations and support them on their pathway to compliance,” said OceanScore’s Head of Commercial APAC Leo Grayson, who leads the Singapore team.

Consequently, OceanScore has quickly established itself as a trusted European compliance partner for the Asian shipping industry amid a pressing need for clarity and confidence on regulatory compliance among regional companies trading into Europe, according to Grayson.

Japanese market traction

He highlighted the significance of gaining Meiji as a client as it indicates OceanScore’s increasing traction in the Japanese market, while reinforcing its growing regional reputation as the most active enabler of regulatory readiness for the industry.

This is underlined by another Asian client based in Hong Kong, Portline, that stated: “We’re thrilled to partner with OceanScore for our EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime compliance needs. Their reputation as the leading brand in Asia made them the clear choice.”

To strengthen regional engagement, OceanScore is hosting regular workshops and training sessions across Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and other Asian maritime hubs, focused on practical compliance guidance for FuelEU Maritime and EU ETS.

OceanScore also participated in the recent Imabari Ship Forum where it engaged with key Japanese stakeholders and shared insights on regulatory challenges and digital solutions. Furthermore, its employees recently participated in Adventure Race Japan to raise money for the Mission to Seafarers, signalling a commitment to build trust and camaraderie in the region.

Partnerships for data quality

The company’s market position has been bolstered by alliances such as a data partnership with Japan’s leading classification society ClassNK to underpin data accuracy and compliance capabilities for its tools.

The credibility of OceanScore’s data offering has been further enhanced through a collaboration with DNV, with which it co-hosted a well-attended seminar during Singapore Maritime Week that highlighted their combined strengths in terms of deep technical knowledge and data validation.

“Data credibility sets us apart. Working closely with ClassNK and DNV helps ensure our clients can rely on our platform not just for reporting, but for strategic decision-making,” Grayson said. “By combining a local human approach with trusted technical expertise, OceanScore is promoting greater understanding for Asian companies to adapt to new regulation and chart a confident course for compliance.”
