Sailors’ Society setting sail for London Marathon

Maritime welfare charity Sailors’ Society is making a last call for the TCS London Marathon 2023.

Taking place on Sunday April 23, new sign-ups to Team Sailors’ Society will be in good company with supporters from across the shipping industry already registered to take part, including from West P&I, Inmarsat, Ambrey and Navis Consulting.

But time is running out – the global charity, which supports seafarers and their families in need, has just a few guaranteed places left available for this world-famous run.

Inmarsat’s Peter Broadhurst, who is donning a Sailors’ Society running vest for this year’s event, said: “Running the TCS London Marathon 2023 is a challenge, as is the world we live in today, but the money I raise will all be going to a great charity that will support our seafarers across the world.

“Since my time working at sea, and post-Covid19, providing support for our seafarers could not be more important. Having seen first-hand Sailors’ Society’s work, the welfare they provide and the appreciation that crews have for this, I am proud to support them in any way I can.”

For those who would prefer to take on the challenge closer to home, there is also the option of taking part in the Virtual London Marathon. Held on the same day as the live marathon in London, participants run or walk 26.2 miles wherever they are in the world over 24 hours.

So, whether you want the roar of the crowds to spur you on or to run your way on a route of your choice, Sailors’ Society has the event for you.
